Golden Eagles continue to fly high
Golden Eagles 6 – 0 PAM FC
There was a buzz of excitement as Golden Eagles shifted from their favourite hunting ground Ellis Robbins to the National Sports Stadium.
When the pre-match frenzy came to an end it was down to serious business as Golden Eagles and PAM FC battled for supremacy.
Golden Eagles sent a huge statement in their quest to challenge for honours after hammering PAM FC 6-0 at the National Sports Stadium.
In a match which ended as a one-sided affair rather than a contest, the hosts would stop at nothing to grab maximum points and opened the scoring early in the first stanza when left back Lindell Mupfumisi’s diving header off a Tawanda Bhunu cross from the right gave Golden Eagles the lead.
Moments later Mupfumisi would then turn provider after delivering a cross which was headed home by Raymond Uchena who doubled Golden Eagles advantage.
Tatenda Hapazari could have made it three with only the keeper to beat but his effort went wide leaving coach Joel Lupahla disappointed.
It was however not long before Golden Eagles found a third with central defender Nigel Gandari firing home from close range as the hosts went to the breather carrying a comfortable lead.
Soon after the restart, Golden Eagles were at it again and added another goal when skipper Henry Manatsa tapped in a Mupfumisi corner kick sending their fans into a frenzy.
As if that was not enough second half substitute Claude Mapoka netted the fifth of the day.
Mapoka reasserted his super sub tag when he completed a brace with ten minutes to go to seal victory for the hosts.
PAM could have got a consolation goal after they were awarded a penalty but second choice goalkeeper Lloyd Majarira who came in for the injured Munyaradzi Diya ensured they kept a clean sheet when he saved a Tendai Mufunguru penalty kick.
