Gracious Mumpande from Binga Secures U.S. Football Scholarship at Texas College

Rising football talent Gracious Mumpande from Binga, Matabeleland North, has taken a significant leap forward in his sporting and academic journey after earning a prestigious football scholarship to study and play at Texas College in the United States.

The young midfielder, who honed his skills at Binga Soccer Academy, is set to become the first footballer from the rural Binga district to secure such an opportunity in America. His achievement has been met with celebration and pride among his community, coaches, and peers.

Binga Soccer Academy director Pride Ngwenya confirmed the news to Zimpapers Sports Hub, stating that Mumpande’s scholarship will enable him to pursue both his academic goals and football career in the U.S.

“We ask for support and celebrate our very own Gracious Mumpande from Binga. He was born and raised in Binga, and has officially signed to join Texas College after receiving a football scholarship. He becomes the first player born in Binga to play football in the United States,” Ngwenya said.

Mumpande has been playing for Zebra Revolution in recent months and is expected to depart for the U.S. in August to begin his new chapter.

The scholarship was facilitated through Vision2Africa, a development-focused organization that connects talented athletes from underrepresented regions with life-changing opportunities abroad.

A representative from Vision2Africa expressed their enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “At Vision2Africa, we are proud to be part of creating life-changing opportunities for talented youth in remote areas of Zimbabwe. Our mission is to discover and empower raw talent from every corner of Africa and beyond.”

Mumpande’s move is being hailed as a milestone not only for him personally but for the entire Binga region. His success story is expected to inspire other young athletes from marginalized communities in Zimbabwe to dream big and work hard for similar opportunities.

With Mumpande preparing to fly the Zimbabwean flag high at Texas College, his journey reflects the potential of sports to unlock doors and transform lives, especially in rural areas where such dreams often seem out of reach.
