Jordan Zemura Foundation Hosts Youth Football Initiative To Empower Zimbabwean Children

The Jordan Zemura Foundation is set to host a major youth football and community engagement initiative this Saturday as part of its ongoing mission to empower young people through sport, mentorship, and inclusion. The event will bring together invited primary schools from different communities for a full day of football activities, coaching sessions, and mentorship programmes aimed at inspiring children and promoting positive social values. The initiative highlights the growing role of sport in youth development and community transformation across Zimbabwe. Organisers believe football can provide children with confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills that extend beyond the field of play. The programme also reflects the Foundation’s commitment to creating opportunities for both boys and girls to participate equally in sport and personal development activities.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, 30 May, at Wise Owl Group of Schools in Westgate, Harare, with activities expected to begin at 8am. Eight invited primary schools will compete in an exciting seven-a-side football tournament featuring both boys and girls. Alongside the competition, the event will also host a dedicated girls coaching and mentorship session designed to encourage greater female participation in sport. The organisers want young girls to feel included and empowered while developing their athletic and personal skills in a supportive environment. All participating learners are expected to receive prizes and goody bags, helping create a memorable and rewarding experience for every child involved.
According to the Foundation, the initiative goes beyond football and focuses strongly on mentorship and social impact. Through interactive sessions and community engagement activities, children will have the chance to learn valuable life lessons from coaches, organisers, and mentors. The programme aims to encourage young people to believe in their abilities and pursue opportunities that can improve their futures. Organisers also hope the event will strengthen relationships between schools, families, and community stakeholders who support youth development. By combining sport with mentorship, the initiative seeks to create a positive and motivating atmosphere for children from different backgrounds.
The event has received support from several organisations and businesses working alongside the Jordan Zemura Foundation to ensure its success. Partners include Wise Owl Group of Schools, Coral Soft, Dravental Car Hire, Glytime Foods, and Cimas, all contributing in different areas such as logistics, mobility, wellness support, hygiene products, and community engagement. Their involvement reflects growing recognition of the importance of investing in youth-focused programmes across Zimbabwe. Support from the private sector also strengthens the Foundation’s ability to expand its outreach and impact within local communities. These partnerships are expected to help deliver a well-organised event that prioritises both learning and enjoyment for participating children.
Zimbabwean international footballer has continued to build strong ties with his home country despite growing up in the United Kingdom and playing professional football in Europe. The Udinese Calcio defender has consistently used his platform to support community development projects through his Foundation. During off-seasons, he regularly returns to Zimbabwe to participate in initiatives that include donating boreholes to rural schools, improving sanitation facilities, and providing football kits to young players. His efforts have positioned him as one of the country’s young athletes actively investing in social development beyond football. Through these projects, Zemura continues to show that athletes can play a meaningful role in addressing community challenges and inspiring future generations.
The upcoming football and mentorship event represents another important step in the Foundation’s broader vision of youth empowerment and inclusion. By using sport as a platform for education, confidence building, and social connection, the initiative aims to leave a lasting impact on the participating children and their communities. It also sends a strong message about the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces where young people can grow and thrive. As Zimbabwe continues to invest in youth development through sport and education, initiatives like this one demonstrate the positive change that can happen when communities, businesses, and athletes work together. The Jordan Zemura Foundation’s continued efforts are helping shape a future where sport becomes a powerful tool for transformation, opportunity, and hope for young Zimbabweans.
