Magwizi and Gore Submit Nomination Papers for ZIFA Presidency

Aspiring candidates for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency, Nqobile Magwizi and Marshall Gore, have officially submitted their nomination papers ahead of the eagerly anticipated elections. The two football figures are vying for the top post, with the election scheduled for January 25, 2025, at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.

Magwizi, the youthful entrepreneur and football enthusiast, submitted his nomination documents via courier. Meanwhile, Gore, a seasoned football administrator, personally delivered his papers to the ZIFA offices.

The nomination process, which opened on November 27, is set to close on December 11, 2024. A total of nine candidates are reportedly vying for the presidency, including high-profile figures such as Prophet Walter Magaya, Temba Mliswa, Philemon Machana, Martin Kweza, Farai Jere, Twine Phiri, and Gilbert Muponda.

In addition to the presidential race, the elections will also feature competitive contests for several key positions in the ZIFA executive body. For the male vice-presidency, candidates including Premier Soccer League boss Kenny Ndebele, Omega Sibanda, Peter Dube, Gift Banda, and Modern Ngwenya have submitted their nominations. Meanwhile, the female vice-presidency race includes Mavis Gumbo, Joyce Kapota, Patience Mutumwa, Winnet Muropa, Nyasha Kadenge, and Loveness Mukura.

As the December 11 nomination deadline approaches, football enthusiasts across the country eagerly await the official list of contenders. The election on January 25 is expected to bring significant change to Zimbabwe’s football leadership, with candidates pledging to improve the administration of the sport and bring fresh ideas to the national football scene.
