Mangwiro’s Triangle adventure
By Geronimo News
Stints with Masvingo United, Monomotapa FC, Caps united, Harare City and now Triangle United place Taurai Mangwiro as one of the experienced coaches in local football.
His exciting journey as a topflight football coach has been somewhat dampened by over a year of football inactivity, but news of football returning soon is what is keeping Taurai Mangwiro invigorated, ”Its been very stressful to be inactive, whilst we also acknowledge it’s a pandemic which no one saw coming. It is something that has affected the whole world but we are pleased to hear of a possible return” said Mangwiro.
Having lost the services of influential captain Ralph Kawondera as well as four other players to Ngezi platinum Mangwiro is keen for additions to his squad, “We have a team that can compete but obviously we need to make one or two reinforcements having lost about 7 regulars in the team”.
Since taking over the reigns as Triangle Head Coach in 2017 it has been a journey of mixed fortunes for Taurai Mangwiro. After guiding Triangle to a 9th place finish in 2017, 2018 was his most impressive season after guiding the lowveld outfit to a Chibuku Super cup triumph as well as a 4th place finish. In 2019 Triangle would come within a round of qualifying for the Caf Confederation Cup group stage but the lowveld side was eliminated by Tanzania’s Azam FC.
Mangwiro may not have a psl title to his name but the Triangle gaffer believes achieving this feat is very possible, ”Having won a couple of trophies, we now need to go for even the big one, let’s believe that it can be done and work towards achieving that”.
