Mighty Warriors return to COSAFA
The Zimbabwe senior women’s national football team, the Mighty Warriors, has been drawn in a tricky pool ahead of the COSAFA Cup tournament slated for Gauteng, South Africa next month.
The Mighty Warriors have been placed in Group C alongside Namibia, Botswana and Lesotho for the 2023 edition of the regional women’s competition.
Although the team has no coach yet, it is that pleasure which comes with the Mighty Warriors’ return to the international football community after missing out on the 2022 edition due to FIFA suspension, that has gripped the football loving Zimbabweans across all board.
Despite being out of the picture for a while, the addition of Zimbabwe into the fold has certainly left South Africa and current holders Zambia with a lot of sleepless nights as the Mighty Warriors are no pushovers.
Be that as it may, it is hoped the Mighty Warriors will mark their return to the tournament with a bang.
In this exciting installment of the regional women’s competition, the teams will once again be split into three groups of four sides with the top nation in each pool progressing to the semifinal stage.
The best runner up across all groups will take up the fourth slot in the knockout round of the COSAFA Cup competition which will run from October 4-15 in Gauteng, South Africa.
Meanwhile, the tournament will be work as an excellent preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games second round qualifiers.
