Munashe Garananga to Feature in UEFA Champions League After Winning Danish Superliga Title with FC Copenhagen

Zimbabwe Warriors defender Munashe Garananga is set to grace the UEFA Champions League stage next season after helping Danish giants FC Copenhagen clinch the 2024/25 Danish Superliga title. The 24-year-old’s team sealed the championship in style with a commanding 3-0 victory over Nordsjaelland on the final day of the season.
The title triumph guarantees Copenhagen a spot in the second qualifying round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. To reach the coveted group stage, the Danish champions will need to navigate through three qualifying rounds—potentially facing some of Europe’s elite clubs along the way.
Garananga, who arrived at Copenhagen in July 2024 from Belgian side KV Mechelen, made 11 league appearances in his debut season. The towering central defender quickly adapted to life in Denmark and played a crucial role in solidifying the team’s backline during the title run.
“FC Copenhagen has strengthened their defense with the addition of Munashe Garananga, who has signed until summer 2028,” the club announced upon his signing last year.
For Garananga, winning a league title in his first season at Copenhagen marks a dream start to his career in Denmark. It also adds another trophy to his growing collection, having previously lifted the Moldovan league title with FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
His journey to the top tiers of European football has been a steady climb. After honing his skills at Prince Edward School Academy in Zimbabwe, he moved to Ubuntu Cape Town Football Academy in South Africa. He then took his talents abroad in February 2022 by signing with Dynamo Brest in Belarus, before joining Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova in early 2023.
Following a brief stint in Belgium with KV Mechelen at the start of 2024, Garananga made the switch to FC Copenhagen in July—a move that has quickly paid off.
Speaking upon his arrival in Denmark, Garananga had expressed confidence in the team’s ambitions: “I’m looking forward to joining the team and helping to win the Danish championship next season.” Just months later, that vision has been realized.
Now, as Copenhagen prepares for their UEFA Champions League campaign, all eyes will be on Garananga to continue his rapid development and test his skills against some of the world’s best attackers. His rise also comes at a time when Zimbabwe is keen to see more of its footballers competing at the highest levels of European football.
As he prepares for his next challenge on the continental stage, Garananga remains a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring footballers back home in Zimbabwe.
