Scott Sakupwanya Hands Over Club Jersey to Kuda Tagwirei

Newly-promoted Premiership side Scottland is quickly becoming a model of success and ambition in Zimbabwean football. The Mabvuku-based club continues to capture headlines, and last night’s event in Harare further cemented its status as a team to watch.

At a function held in the capital, Scottland president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya presented the club’s autographed jersey to Sakunda Holdings director Kuda Tagwirei. The gesture symbolized the strengthening partnership between the football club and the energy giants, who have pledged unprecedented support to the team.

A Historic Sponsorship Deal

Sakunda Holdings announced a groundbreaking sponsorship package worth US$1.5 million per season for the next five years. This deal, the largest of its kind for a single club in Zimbabwe’s top flight, surpasses the US$1 million annual sponsorship Sakunda already provides to Dynamos and Highlanders.

The funds will support Scottland’s journey in the Premier Soccer League, covering player acquisitions, operational costs, and infrastructural developments. Additionally, Sakunda Holdings committed to assisting the club in constructing a 15,000-seater stadium in Mabvuku. To ensure world-class standards, Sakunda will facilitate site visits for Scottland officials to three international stadiums.

Tagwirei emphasized the importance of running football clubs as businesses and praised Scottland’s vision for combining on-field success with community development.

“We are committed to helping Scottland achieve success in the Premier Soccer League and beyond,” said Tagwirei. “Your focus on your fans and players will lay the foundation for sustainable growth. Our partnership reflects our confidence in your potential.”

More Than Financial Support

Beyond the financial sponsorship, Sakunda Holdings will provide playing, training, and travel kits for the team. The coach and captain will also receive top-of-the-range vehicles, matching similar perks offered to Dynamos and Highlanders.

The support goes beyond football, reflecting a broader goal of community upliftment. Sakupwanya highlighted the significance of the partnership, saying, “This sponsorship is about more than football. It’s about building a better future for Mabvuku through sports and youth programs.”

Scottland’s Ambitious Plans

Scottland’s rise from a local team to a Premiership contender is nothing short of remarkable. The club is not only determined to excel on the field but also to make a lasting impact in its community.

“This sponsorship allows us to dream big,” Sakupwanya added. “We aim to compete at the highest level while giving back to the people of Mabvuku. With Sakunda Holdings’ support, the future looks incredibly bright.”

The event was a testament to the power of partnerships in transforming football in Zimbabwe. Scottland’s story continues to inspire, showing what’s possible when ambition meets opportunity.
