SRC gives Young Warriors green light to travel
The Sports and Recreation commission has given the Zimbabwe under 20 team the green light to travel for the 2020 Cosafa championships after the trip had been put on hold owing to perceived undue procedure. The SRC recently called off the Zim under 20 trip arguing the Zimbabwe Football Association had not provided the trips documentation in time for the Young Warriors trip.
The development led to the suspension of ZIFA Chief Executive Officer Joseph Mamutse as well as the Sports and Recreation director general Prince Mupazviriho. The SRC has however made a u-turn on it’s decision after the board issued out communication indicating the Young Warriors can now travel for the regional tournament following an appeal by ZIFA.
The Zimbabwe Football Association faced a hefty fine in the event the Young Warriors failed to participate at the COSAFA tourney but the SRC’s decision to allow them to travel will come as a huge relief for the local football governing body ZIFA.
Zimbabwe junior football teams have of late hogged the limelight with the Zimbabwe under 17 national soccer team disqualified from the COSAFA tourney after a member of the squad failed an MRI scan which is used to determine the eligibility of players.
