Tembo, SuperSport end 23-year marriage

By Geronimo News

DStv Premier League club SuperSport United have ended their 23-year marriage with head coach Kaitano Tembo following a string of poor results.

Following weeks of speculation over the future of the Zimbabwean at the Tshwane based outfit, Matsatsantsa have finally come out open putting to bed the issue which has been topical in football circles in the recent past.

In a statement released this Tuesday, club Chief Executive Officer Stan Matthews confirmed the development saying the two parties reached a mutual agreement to part ways.

“Kaitano is the epitome of the dedicated club man. Very few players transition into coaching at the same club where they played. We want to thank Kaitano for the many years that he served SuperSport United in various capacities. It is never easy parting ways but as a true servant, Kaitano has always placed the interests of the club above that of individuals. We are grateful for the role he has played at the club both as a player and coach,” he said.

The former Dynamos defender served SuperSport for more than two decades, first as a player in 1999 before moving to the coaching role, serving as an assistant to Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter and Eric Tinkler.

He then took the position of head coach in 2018, went onto reach two MTN8 Cup finals and won his first trophy against Highlands Park the following year.

Meanwhile, Andre Arendse has been appointed head coach on an interim basis until the end of the 2021/22 DStv Premier League season.
