Tino Kadewere salvages point for Lyon
Zimbabwean forward Tinotenda Kadewere rose from the bench to save Olympique Lyon from the jaws of defeat in ligue 1 action on Friday evening. Kadewere who was making a return from injury after picking up a muscle strain was introduced as a substitute after the break with with his side trailing 1 nil after Mathieu Cafaro had thrust his side into a 33rd minute lead.
With the game seemingly headed for a Stade Reims victory Kadewere rose high inside the box to head home a vital equaliser for Olympique Lyon in the 92nd minute. After the match Kadewere was elated to score a crucial goal “It was a difficult game tonight. We had a lot of chances to win. The season is not over. We have to work for PSG. I am happy to be back and to have scored”, said Kadewere.
Friday’s goal was Kadewere’s 10th of the season thus ensuring the Zimbabwean forward reached double figures in his maiden campaign with Olympique Lyon. The Warriors player has had a flying start to life with Lyon after scooping the golden boot award in ligue 2 where he turned out for Le Havre.
Zimbabwe national team head coach Zdravko Logarusic would have wanted to capitalise on Kadewere’s form in France but the covid-19 situation has ruled out any chances of Kadewere joining the Warriors who face Botswana and Zambia in crucial back to back Africa cup of Nations qualifiers.
