ZIFA Rallies Behind Mighty Warriors Ahead of Crucial Afcon Qualifier
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has pledged its full support to the Mighty Warriors as they gear up to face Angola in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Qualifiers. With high hopes of securing a spot in the prestigious tournament, ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has assured the team of the association’s unwavering commitment to their success.
“We stand firmly behind our Mighty Warriors as they prepare for this vital encounter,” Magwizi stated. “Their dedication to representing Zimbabwe with honour is truly commendable. As an association, we are committed to providing all necessary support to ensure their success.”
The Mighty Warriors aim to follow in the footsteps of their male counterparts, the Warriors, who have already secured qualification for this year’s Men’s Afcon in Morocco. With ZIFA’s backing, the women’s team is determined to make their mark on the continental stage and turn their Afcon dream into a reality.
“Together, we believe we can achieve greatness and bring the Afcon dream closer to reality,” Magwizi added. “We will do everything in our power to support the Mighty Warriors and ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed.”
Under the leadership of head coach Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda, the Mighty Warriors have been undergoing rigorous preparations for the crucial two-legged tie. The first leg is set to take place in Luanda, Angola, on February 20, with the return leg scheduled for February 26 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
Coach Sibanda expressed confidence in her team’s preparations and their ability to make Zimbabwe proud. “The players have shown exceptional commitment and passion from the onset,” she said. “Our focus is on building a cohesive unit that plays with heart and purpose. We are determined to make Zimbabwe proud and secure our spot in the Women’s Afcon.”
The Mighty Warriors have received a significant boost with the return of several experienced players. Key contributors such as Daisy Kaitano, Mavis Chirandu, Christabel Katona, and Rutendo Makore from Black Rhinos have rejoined the squad. Additionally, Emmaculate Msipa, who plies her trade in Israel with Ramat Hashron, is back in the fold, further strengthening the team.
As the countdown to the qualifier begins, the Mighty Warriors are determined to rise to the occasion and bring joy to their fans. With ZIFA’s backing and a united front, the team is ready to fight for their place in the Women’s Afcon and cement their status as one of the continent’s top teams.
