Zimbabwe bow out of Cosafa Cup

Zdravko Logarusic’s credentials as a coach have once again come under the spotlight after leading Zimbabwe to yet another disappointing loss at the hands of guest nation Senegal at the ongoing COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

The 2-1 loss to Senegal at Nelson Mandela Bay this Tuesday afternoon was the Warriors second in a row after losing 2-0 to Namibia in their second group encounter on Sunday, ultimately bowing out of the tournament with their tails between their legs after accumulating a paltry two points from four matches.

The Warriors who took the lead as early as the third minute when skipper Qadr Amini converted a penalty, could not safeguard their lead allowing the guests to come from behind twice to claim a 2-1 victory which sent Zimbabwe packing.

After the match Zimbabwe head coach Zdravcko Logarusic attributed the defeat to fatigue “Today fatigue killed us at the end of the first half and at the end of the second half is when we conceded our goals. Still we have a very young team and then we made some individual mistakes which cost us some goals this is a learning process I hope they learn these things at this stage and then at another stage as we go more up. First goal no-one covered our goalkeeper and then second goal was a bit naive but anyway this is part of the learning process.”

Known for dominating the region, Zimbabwe could have done better but given the current coach they have, whose credentials are always a subject for much discussion, the Warriors Cosafa performance should serve as a red flag about where the country’s football is heading to.
