Zimbabwe Celebrates Recipients of 9 Olympic Solidarity Scholarships Ahead of 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
Zimbabwe has officially announced the recipients of nine Olympic Solidarity Scholarships, marking a key milestone in the nation’s preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The initiative, aimed at nurturing elite athletes, was made possible through the generous support of sponsor Nedbank Zimbabwe, highlighting their commitment to developing sporting talent and empowering the country’s athletic future.
The scholarship ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Pamela Tremont, US Ambassador to Zimbabwe. The Honourable Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, was represented by Mrs. Cynthia Mawema, Director of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Ministry. Families of the athletes, including those training abroad, were also present to celebrate the achievements of Zimbabwe’s emerging sports stars.
Special recognition was given to Zimbabwean Olympians for their outstanding contributions. Tokyo 2020’s Ngoni Makusha and Paris 2024’s Isaac Mpofu were presented with Olympic pins, honouring their performances on the global stage and serving as inspiration for the scholarship recipients.
The nine athletes awarded Olympic Solidarity Scholarships include:

- Anje van As (Swimming)
- Ashley Miller (Athletics)
- Benjamin Lock (Tennis)
- Makanaka Charamba (Athletics)
- Paige Van Der Westhuizen (Swimming)
- Tapiwa Makarawu (Athletics)
- Tendai Zimuto (Athletics)
- Vimbai Maisvorewa (Athletics)
These scholarships provide athletes with access to world-class training, international competitions, and support systems to enhance performance, positioning them for success at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
