Zimbabwe Fall 28 Runs Short as Namibia Claim Third T20I at Queens Sports Club

Zimbabwe suffered a 28-run defeat to Namibia in the third and final T20 international at Queens Sports Club, finishing the series 2-1 in their favour. After winning the first two games, the hosts were denied a clean sweep as Namibia produced a strong performance in the decider.
Namibia posted a challenging total of 204 for seven, powered by Jan Frylinck’s blistering 77 off 31 balls. Frylinck set the tone early, targeting Wellington Masakadza for 16 runs in the opening over, including three consecutive boundaries, before punishing Blessing Muzarabani and Trevor Gwandu in the following overs. Frylinck reached his half-century in just 13 balls, giving Namibia a fast start alongside Louren Steenkamp.
Sikandar Raza eventually dismissed Frylinck for 77, which included six sixes and eight fours, but Namibia continued to pile on runs. Ruben Trumpelmann scored 46 off 24 balls, while Alexander Busing-Volschenk hit a last-ball six to lift Namibia to 204 for seven. Raza finished with figures of three for 25 from four overs, highlighting Zimbabwe’s resistance with the ball.
Zimbabwe’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing Tadiwanashe Marumani early and then Brian Bennett for just two. Sean Williams fought valiantly, hitting ten fours and two sixes in his 77, but wickets continued to fall at the other end. Brendan Taylor and Raza were dismissed by JJ Smit, leaving Zimbabwe at 44 for four.
Williams combined with Ryan Burl and later Tashinga Musekiwa to rebuild the innings, but the required run rate proved too steep. Burl fell for 32, and Musekiwa for 13, leaving the tail to manage just 14 additional runs. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 176 in 19.5 overs, falling 28 runs short of the target.
JJ Smit’s four-wicket haul was instrumental in dismantling Zimbabwe’s top order, while Namibia’s aggressive batting, led by Frylinck, secured a memorable victory in the series decider. Despite the loss, Zimbabwe took the series 2-1, with the opening two wins confirming their overall triumph.
The series highlighted key performances from both sides, including Frylinck’s explosive innings, Williams’ resistance with the bat, and Smit and Raza’s crucial contributions with the ball. Zimbabwe will look to build on these positives as they prepare for upcoming T20 competitions.
