Zimbabwe has announced its 22-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa, with the appointment of former Warriors legend Kaitano Tembo as second assistant coach under head coach Michael Nees providing a major boost.

In goal, the Warriors will rely on Washington Arubi (Marumo Gallants), Elvis Chipezeze (Magezi), and Martin Mapisa (MWOS FC) to provide experience and stability between the posts.

The defensive line features a mix of seasoned internationals and emerging talent. Gerald Takwara (Al-Ittihad Misurata), Munashe Sashikadze (FC Cincinnati), Godknows Murwira (Scotland FC), Emmanuel Jalisi (Scotland FC), Jordan Zemura, and veteran Justice Calico will form the backbone of Zimbabwe’s defense, tasked with keeping opponents at bay.

Midfield strength will come from Marvelous Nakamba (Aston Villa), Tawanda Maswanhise (Wolves), and Jadon Fabišic (FC Erzgebirge Aue), who are expected to control the tempo, create scoring opportunities, and provide defensive cover. Their experience in international and club competitions will be crucial in linking defense and attack.

Up front, Zimbabwe will count on Terrence Dzvukamanja (Orlando Pirates), Walter Musona, and Prince Dube to deliver goals at decisive moments. Their pace, finishing ability, and understanding of each other’s play will be central to the Warriors’ attacking strategy.

The inclusion of Kaitano Tembo as assistant coach brings familiarity and tactical insight, drawing from his experience as a former player and understanding of Zimbabwean football culture. Head coach Michael Nees highlighted Tembo’s appointment as a step toward strengthening the coaching setup and enhancing squad cohesion.

The Warriors will face Lesotho and South Africa in matches that are pivotal for their World Cup qualifying campaign. With a balanced squad combining experienced internationals and rising stars, Zimbabwe aims to secure points and build momentum as it pursues a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
