Zimbabwe Qualifies for T20 World Cup with Convincing Win Over Kenya

Zimbabwe made a triumphant return to the international stage, securing qualification for the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after defeating Kenya by seven wickets in the second semifinal of the Africa Qualifier at Harare Sports Club. The victory sets the stage for a final clash against Namibia, who had booked their World Cup spot earlier by beating Tanzania in the first semifinal.

Captain Sikandar Raza reflected on the team’s progress, acknowledging past disappointments. “We have to deal with emotions and stay calm, not allowing past results to question our skills and processes,” he said. “We have put that to bed and we are on our way to the World Cup. We want to win the trophy, so we don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves.” Raza added that the team is focused on Saturday’s final, aiming to build a winning and positive environment.

Zimbabwe’s triumph was led by opener Brian Bennett, who scored a scintillating 51 off 25 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes. Bennett dominated Kenya’s left-arm medium pacer Lucas Oluoch Ndandason, hitting six fours in the fourth over to propel Zimbabwe to 47/0 by the end of that over. Fellow opener Tadiwanashe Marumani contributed 39 off 27 balls, while Ryan Burl sealed the victory with a single, remaining unbeaten on 16. Tony Munyonga ended the innings unbeaten on three at the non-striker’s end.

The bowling unit set the tone early. Towering seamer Blessing Muzarabani claimed two wickets for 19 runs from four overs, while Richard Ngarava reached his 100th T20 wicket milestone by dismissing Kenya’s top scorer Rakep Patel for 65. Brad Evans and Tinotenda Maposa each picked up a wicket, keeping Kenya’s batting under control. For Kenya, Jasraj Kundi and Sachin Gill top-scored with 19* each, while Vraj Patel took two wickets for 29 runs.

Chasing a modest total of 122/6, Zimbabwe cruised to victory, demonstrating both batting firepower and disciplined bowling. The win not only guarantees World Cup participation but also provides momentum heading into the Africa Cup final against Namibia tomorrow.

Zimbabwe will aim to cap off their successful tournament by claiming the Africa Cup trophy, adding to the significance of their World Cup qualification. The team’s blend of experienced leadership, explosive batting, and disciplined bowling positions them as strong contenders on the continental stage.
