Zimbabwe Warriors Receive US$6,500 Each in Recognition of AFCON Qualification
On Tuesday, members of the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, known as the Warriors, were presented with generous cash bonuses of US$6,500 each following their successful qualification for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, set to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
The bonus distribution occurred during a visit to State House, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa personally congratulated the team for their hard-fought qualification. The Zimbabwean government has allocated a significant US$1 million in the national budget to support the Warriors’ preparations for the continental football showpiece.
In his remarks at the event, President Mnangagwa expressed deep appreciation for the team’s efforts, highlighting their dedication, hard work, and unwavering spirit of patriotism. “Your dedication, your hard work, and your unwavering spirit of patriotism have brought honour to our beloved mother country Zimbabwe,” he said.
The President also called on all Zimbabweans, both within the country and in the diaspora, to rally behind the Warriors as they prepare for the highly anticipated tournament. “I urge our nation to rally behind the Warriors, as they embark on this exciting journey carrying the flag of our great motherland Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe here at home and those in diaspora, I encourage you to make requisite arrangements to fill the stadiums to cheer and support our players,” Mnangagwa added.
The funds provided are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring the team is well-prepared for the AFCON tournament, which is expected to be a crucial moment for Zimbabwean football. The Warriors’ qualification has sparked excitement among fans, and their journey to Morocco will be closely followed as they aim to showcase their talent on the continental stage.
