Zimbabwe Warriors Set for Morocco Tour with Friendlies Against Burkina Faso and Niger

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, popularly known as the Warriors, is set to travel to Casablanca, Morocco early next month for two international friendly matches against Burkina Faso and Niger. The fixtures, confirmed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Tuesday, are part of the team’s broader preparations for upcoming competitive tournaments, including the 2025 AFCON finals.

According to the official ZIFA statement, Zimbabwe will face Burkina Faso on 6 June 2025, followed by a match against Niger on 10 June 2025. Both games are scheduled to take place in Casablanca, offering Coach Michael Nees and his technical team a vital window to assess squad readiness and test tactical combinations.

“These matches present an important opportunity for Michael Nees and his technical team to assess player readiness, test combinations, and build cohesion as the team continues its journey of growth and development on the international stage,” ZIFA stated.

The association highlighted the significance of the opposition, noting that both Burkina Faso and Niger will provide the Warriors with solid competitive experience. The upcoming clashes are not just about results but are geared towards long-term strategic planning for future qualifiers and tournaments.

“ZIFA, in collaboration with the technical team, remains committed to ensuring that the Warriors are well-prepared to represent the nation with pride and purpose,” read the statement. “These friendlies are part of a broader strategy to give our national team regular high-level match exposure.”

The announcement comes at a time when momentum around the Warriors’ preparations is growing. Head coach Michael Nees is expected to unveil his squad in the coming days. His recent European tour alongside ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi, which included stops in the UK and Germany, focused on engaging Zimbabwean diaspora players eligible to represent the national team.

The upcoming friendlies in Morocco will likely serve as an opportunity for Nees to evaluate some of these Europe-based players in a competitive setting, as he builds his core squad for the AFCON 2025 finals, also scheduled to be held in Morocco this December.

The Warriors have recently shown promise on the international stage, and these preparatory matches are expected to play a crucial role in refining team chemistry and strengthening Zimbabwe’s chances of making a strong impact in upcoming continental competitions.
