Zimbabwe Women’s Cricket Team Secures Convincing Win Over Sierra Leone

Zimbabwe’s senior women’s cricket team dominated Sierra Leone, winning by 10 wickets in their second ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division One match in Windhoek on Monday.
Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field. The Lady Chevrons restricted Sierra Leone to 93/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Josephine Nkomo led the bowling attack, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs, while Nyasha Gwanzura added 2/14. Only Celina Bull managed to reach double figures, scoring 26 runs.
Chasing the target, Zimbabwe’s innings was smooth and decisive. The team reached 94/0 in just 12 overs. Modester Mupachikwa top scored with 51 off 40 balls, marking her third WT20I half-century. She received strong support from Kelis Ndhlovu, who contributed 39 runs.
The Lady Chevrons will face Nigeria in their final Group A match on Wednesday. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on 4 September. The finalists will secure spots in next year’s global qualifier in Nepal, bringing them closer to qualification for the 2026 World Cup in England and Wales.
Zimbabwe’s dominant performance demonstrates their strength in the tournament and positions them as strong contenders for a place in the next stage of international competition.
