Twitter Increases Character Limit To 280
If you are Twitter user and felt that 140 characters per tweet then there’s good news! Twitter is testing out a new system with its social media platform by doubling the character limit to 280. However, this feature is currently available to a small group. Twitter is testing the new feature with a small subset of its 328 million users.
The decision was motivated by research that showed that hat languages like Japanese, Korean, and Chinese can convey about double the amount of information in one character. People who tweet in Japanese, Korean and Chinese can express thoughts in fewer characters with more room to spare, as opposed to English.
English speakers have in the past had to cram their thoughts it into 140 characters. Lengthening the character limit may result in more engaging conversation on the platform. This will also help for live events and discussion.
