Advocate Mahere reveals her biggest wish for her country
Advocate Fadzayi Mahere said it is her greatest wish to see Zimbabweans enjoying basic amenities such as water. The loud spoken lawyer said water was a luxury during her university days. She recalled her days at the University of Zimbabwe where there were non functional toilets and no water. She said although they had managed to overcome that challenge, there still remained a lot of challenges for the people of Zimbabwe.
Advocate Mahere raised her voice a few days ago when the issue of the returning residents was raised. Nick Mangwana had said the residents were asking to be housed in a hotel to which they responded that they ha only asked for clean and safe water at Belvedere teachers college. Mahere said water should not have to become such a sacred thing when in actual fact it is a basic amenity. Most communities are battling with severe water shortages.
Water treatment plants around the country have become dilapidated and shortage of chemicals has led to councils providing unsafe water residents. Those selling water in bulk supplies have had fat pockets as they take advantage of the crisis. Cholera and typhoid outbreaks are common in areas such as Budiriro and Glen View.
Mahere has always been one to speak her mind. The feisty and sharp tongued lawyer always points out the shortfalls in the handling of the country’s affairs
