Busted: Duo nabbed for printing fake covid 19 certificates
A duo that has been issuing out fake covid 19 certificates has been nabbed by police. Takesure Kanyai and and Taridzo Chimhavi recently appeared in court in Harare. They were selling the fake certificates to travellers at Roadport which is located along fourth street.
The duo has since been charged with forgery. On 4 January police detectives received information that the pair were producing fake certificates at Peacock saloon in the Cbd. They acted on the information and arrested Kanyai who was in possession of four fake covid 19 certificates at the time. The certificates were all alleged to have been issued at Parktown hospital, Sally Mugabe central hospital and Pathcare Molecular Pathology. The admitted to having been involved in the illegal operation.
People have expressed outrage at the conduct of the two. Covid 19 has been ravaging the country and such fake information will ultimately have serious consequences. Most people who had flooded back into the country for the festive holidays are believed to have been buying the fake certificates in a bid to be allowed entry back into South Africa as well as other neighbouring countries.
South African immigration authorities have been turning people back at the border due to the issue of being in possession of fake certificates. The situation has culminated into congestion at the Beitbridge border post where thousands of people are currently lodged in a bid to seek greener pastures in South Africa.
The duo was asked not to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko. They will make a formal bail application today
