Chillspot records apologizes for explicit lyrics by juvenile chanter.
Zimbabwean dancehall hotspot record company Chillspot records recently tendered an apology following the circulation of a rather disturbing video emanating from their stable. The video shows one juvenile named Tavonga singing a song with explicit sexual connotations. So shocking were the lyrics to the song that most people lambasted the recording company for badly influencing young children.
The young chanter, who said that his stage name was “muzukuru wasekuru vamhama” was ecstatic as he spewed out explicit content. Part of the lyrics were” Takabata mwana wevanhu chibharo. Ainyanya kunaka kumagaro” literally translating to “We raped someone’s child. She was more appealing on her bums”. There was so much outrage at the video and even other celebrities in the music industry castigated such behaviour. Buffalo Souljah, a dancehall artist, said that it was unacceptable and the little boy must have been reprimanded the moment those words came out of his mouth.
Chillspot records has issued a statement and said the boy was out of line. They have also taken full responsibility of the video which was taken at their studios. They remarked, “As a record label we strive to uplift young talent and any damage caused by the video in circulation is sincerely regretted”. They said they are striving to ensure a safe haven for home grown talent. They further reiterated that they want to shape society through music.
The record company undertook to contact the parents of the little boy and also ensure that he undergoes proper counselling. Chillspot records is known for identifying and nurturing talent. Several zimdancehall artist have passed through its premises. These include Enzo ishall, Killer T, Bazooker, Boss Pumacol and Soul Jah love.
