Gokwe North Set to Shine as Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Celebrations Take Center Stage

In a true display of inclusivity and decentralization, Gokwe North will be the focal point of Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day celebrations. Set to take place at the Nembudziya Growth Point Open Ground on April 18, this year’s Uhuru festivities embrace the theme “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together towards Vision 2030.”
The decision to host the national event in Gokwe North underscores the Second Republic’s commitment to spreading major celebrations across the country, ensuring that all regions feel the significance of independence. It also provides an opportunity to showcase local culture, business potential, and talent while fostering a sense of unity and national pride.
As with previous years, the Independence Day celebrations promise a packed program of entertainment and activities. Attendees can look forward to children’s events, displays from uniformed forces, soccer matches, and a musical gala featuring some of Zimbabwe’s top artists. This year’s event is expected to not only be a reflection on past achievements but also a moment to emphasize the nation’s collective journey toward economic and infrastructural development.
Midlands Artistes Ready to Shine
With the celebrations happening in their backyard, artistes from the Midlands province are eager to be part of the historic moment. Veteran musicians Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sanyanga and Gift Amuli, both proud sons of the province, have encouraged their fellow artists to take this opportunity to learn and grow.
Chief Hwenje, known for his energetic performances and hit songs like Mai Welly and ED Pfeee, highlighted how national events have opened doors for many musicians. “Performing at state functions has helped me grow as an artist. Every event is a learning experience. Gokwe will be on fire this year, and I look forward to being part of the celebrations,” he said.
Similarly, Gift Amuli, who has a deep connection to Gokwe, expressed excitement about the event coming to his home area. “This is the perfect opportunity for Midlands artistes to shine. Even if I am not on the lineup, I will attend to witness the festivities,” he said. He also urged upcoming artists to observe and learn from those performing on such a big platform.
Soccer and Business Opportunities
This year’s Independence Cup final will feature FC Platinum and Simba Bhora, bringing top-flight football action to the Midlands province. The Uhuru Cup, traditionally contested by clubs like Highlanders, Dynamos, and CAPS United, remains a key highlight of the celebrations.
Beyond the festivities, hosting the event in Gokwe North is expected to boost the local economy. Previous Uhuru celebrations held in areas like Dotito in Mt. Darwin and Murambinda Growth Point (Buhera) have demonstrated how national events can stimulate business activity and infrastructure development in rural areas.
As Zimbabwe marks 45 years of independence, the focus remains on fostering development across all provinces. By bringing major celebrations to previously overlooked areas, the nation continues to embrace the vision of inclusivity, ensuring that no region is left behind.
