Man kills girlfriend and five kids in a horrific homicide

A 32 year old Zimbabwean national was recently thrown behind bars in South Africa after hacking his girlfriend to death together with her five children. Nowa Makula was charged with six counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.

Makula appeared before a magistrate recently and opted for legal representative. He also asked for an interpretor to translate Shona. He is believed to have attempted to flee the country back to Zimbabwe before being nabbed by police. It is believed that Makula subjected his girlfriend to an abusive relationship before finally putting the nail to her coffin. Friends and relatives who commented on the matter said his girlfriend had made her intentions known that she wanted to leave him.

The accused is said to have attempted to flee the country back into Zimbabwe. There was outrage at the violent manner in which the crimes had been committed. The murder scene was so gruesome and of the children that he murdered the youngest was only six months old. The incident happened only a few days before the rest of the world Jo Ned hands in commemorating 16 days of activism against gender based violence. Such horrific crimes against women and children have become common in South Africa.

Social media has been awash with comments on the murders and calls have been made for more action to be taken against perpetrators of gender based violence.
