Mixed reactions over the auction of E.D scarf.
There have been mixed reactions over the auction of the famous scarf that is usually worn by president Emmerson Munangagwa at the recently held warriors fundraising dinner. The scarf was bought by fuel mogul Kudakwashe Tagwirei for 250 000 rtgs.
The Sakunda energy owner was the highest bidder for the scarf. The findarising dinner was hosted by the warriors fundraising committee led by the acting sports minister Kazembe Kazembe to raise funds to assist the warriors who are currently in Egypt to participate in the Afcon cup. Charles Mabika had asked the president to remove his scarf for auction before the start of the event.
Most people applauded Tagwirei for his fat donation and said that it will certainly go a long way in assisting the warriors. Others however, were of the view that a scarf should not have fetched so much money. They said the whole event was merely a platform for the bigwigs to show off their wealth.
Other contributors at the event included Hwedza south legislator, Tinomuda Machakaire who bought a signed warriors jersey for USD 10 000, Zimplats and Harare city among others.
The scarf is a signature look for the president. He once remarked that the scarf was the flag that United the people of Zimbabwe and that he was proud of his country.
The warriors will make their debut at Afcon with the opening match against the hosts Egypt.
