Yet another musician hits hard times
Life has been unfair on some of our local celebrities in the arts industry. A few months ago, it was reported that Greatman had fallen on hard times. He had to resort to vending after cancellation of shows took its toll on his finances. Reports currently circulating are that gospel musician Amanda Sagonda has succumbed to the same problem. She is now a street vendor.
The lockdown has worsened her financial woes as she cannot perform or secure gigs. The singer decided to swallow her pride and become a vendor in order to sustain her livelihood. Amanda enjoyed fame with songs such as Jesu number 1 and Mwari vanoziva. These songs were chart toppers and she immediate became a household name. This popularity has sadly done nothing to ensure she has a good life.
Amanda has an upcoming album titled Mwari vasinganyadzise. It is due to be released soon. The singer has had her fair share of misfortunes. Before the lockdown she was dealt a heavy blow when the court ruled that she was not entity to spousal maintenance from her ex husband. The singer admitted to a local publication that things have been tough for her. She said the only thing that is keeping her going is the unconditional love that she has for her kids as well as the word of God
She remarked,” Covid 19 effects left me without anything to give my children and God remain remains my hope and i now strongly believe he will save them from the wrath of the pandemic”. The singer clearly has hit hard times. ” Had it no been the word of life I received from my childhood, effects of covid 19 and marital issues could have taken me into an abyss” she continued.
Indeed most artists are struggling to make a living during this lockdown period. Amanda is just one of the many cases
