Black Rhinos Queens on the verge of making history

Black Rhinos Queens are on the verge of making history by becoming the first country from the COSAFA region to participate at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League following their 2-0 victory over Double Action Ladies of Botswana in the first semi-final of the qualifiers in Durban this Thursday.

The Zimbabwean ladies who have been diminutive form the onset of the qualifying tournament sweeping past each team which came their way thus far did not take its foot off the pedal and humbled their Botswana opponents.

Goals from Mavis Chirandu and Merjury Nyaumwe were enough to send the army side through to the finals pencilled for Saturday with the winner making it to the grand stage in Egypt later in the year.   

An elated head coach Kuda Matuwi said he feels happy with what they have achieved so far with the hope that they will produce favourable results come Saturday.

“We are very very happy as the technical team. We are so proud of the girls for what they have done so far considering we are coming from a background were there was no football in Zimbabwe. Reaching the finals only is a great achievement on its own,” he said.

Given the determination and coherence of the team Matuwi added that such characteristics have been their major driving force to steer them to victory.

Black Rhinos Queens will now face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the final on Saturday after the hosts registered a 1-0 win over Green Buffaloes of Zambia in the other semi final match this afternoon.
