Eyebrows raised over Pembi bridge budget

The newly constructed bridge in Mvurwi has set tongues wagging. The bridge is alleged to have cost around USD 1.8million. Most people have been accusing local authorities and government of inflating figures judging from the way the bridge is built.

The Pembi bridge was officially opened by the vice president Kembo Mohadi. What most people are failing to understand is the simplicity in construction and materials used. The issue has baffled many people and questions are being posed on the budget for the construction of the bridge. Social media has been flooded with comments about the bridge. Some have even compared the bridge to South African Nelson Mandela bridge which was constructed for 2.2 million US dollars but looks the part.

There is a lot of speculation regarding the figures on the bridge construction project. Although another issue raised is that a road stretching two kilometers was also prepared around the bridge, people have still questioned the authenticity of figures provided.
