A daring man was caught red handed by vendors in Norton carrying 5 children that he had kidnapped. There was commotion when the kidnapper was caught by some alert vendors who managed to rescue the 5 children. They were locked in the criminal’s car.
It was reported that the alleged kidnapper Norman Mushuku aged 31 was apprehended by the alert vendors at Karina filling station along the Harare-Bulawayo highway near Norton. 5 children, all around the age of 6 were locked inside the car.
The children were safely handed back to their parents if not for the intervention of the vendors. It still remains unclear what Mushuku intended to do with the children and I he was working alone. The arrest was confirmed by the police. Police spokesperson Assistant Commisioner Paul Nyathi said,”We have arrested Norman Mushuku after he was caught with five children whom he had lured into his car using sweets and drive off after locking them inside, He works for a security company and was travelling using the company’s vehicle when he stopped at a filling station at Karina and the cries of the children were heard by vendors nearby.
When asked who the kids belonged to, he claimed that they were his boss’s kids coming from Zvimba and he was taking them to Harare”.
The vendors were not convinced by the story and noted that the children were almost the same age. Some of them were crying and asking for their parents. This is when the whole truth was revealed. The vendors apprehended Mushuku and handed him over to the police at Norton Central Police Station.
Police have advised parents to take care of their children and teach them not to accept food from strangers. The case of Mushuku simply reveals the seriousness of such other cases in the country.
