South African Home Affairs Launches Migrants Awards

A few weeks after the horrific xenophobic attacks on migrants, the South African Home Affairs has launched inaugural migrants awards which are aimed to show South Africa’s commitment for a caring inclusive society.

The Minister of South African Home Affairs, Minister Malusi Gigaba said the awards are intended to demonstrate the positive role played by migrants in South African society to change the perception people have on the effect of migrants on South African economy and social services.

The Awards which will be held annually, will honor and celebrate outstanding legal migrants who are contributing to the economy of South Africa and South Africans who are outside of the country contributing to the development of Africa through their work.

Nominations are in six categories which are Arts & Culture, Business, Civil Society and NGOs, Sport, OR Tambo and Most Integrated Community.

Nominations can be sent to [email protected] before the 20th of May and the winners will be announced during the awards ceremony which will be held in Johannesburg on Africa Day, May 25th.
