Zimbabwean Rugby Team Wins Africa Cup Sevens
The Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team, the Cheetahs, defeated pre-tournament favourites Kenya 17-5 to win their first African title since 2012. Before the final which was played in Monastir, Tunisia on Sunday, both Zimbabwe and Kenya were undefeated. Shingai Katsvere converted a try after five minutes.
Takudzwa Kumadiro scored a second try although this one was not converted. Speedster Tafadzwa Chitokwindo scored the third and final try. Brian Wahinya scored Kenya’s only try.
Zimbabwe’s victory means the Cheetahs will participate in the Dubai, Cape Town and Hong Kong legs of the 2018-2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
