With inflation rising each and every day, the prices of basic commodities on Zimbabwe are becoming more and more fictitious by the day. Sveral items that were once considered basic everyday necessities have become a thing of the past for many with cheaper alternatives being opted for. Here are some of the things that most people can no longer afford to buy.
1 Bread
Bread has become so expensive that most people no longer buy it. Indeed the bible phrase that man cannot live by bread alone seems to be applying in the country at the moment with a single loaf of bread costing around 5 rtgs dollars. Bread prices have been shooting up ever since the beginning of the year.
2 Washing powder
It is one of those items that are necessary and yet most people are lamenting the exhorbitant price at which it is being sold at. Most people are now using homemade bricks of soap which do not achieve the best results as washing powder.
3 Meat
Meat is virtually unaffordable. Most people have resorted to eating soya chunks, vegetables and at times sour milk as a substitute for meat.Those who rear chickens are selling them at high prices due to the increases in stock feeds.
4 Cooking oil
Cooking oil is not being found in many shops but if one eventually finds it in selected stores it is going for an unbelievable 20 to 30 rtgs dollars. Shockingly cooking oil was only 4 rtgs a few months ago. Most people are failing to buy it.
5 Beer
Most people especially men have bemoaned the prices of beer which were also hiked. Beer has become a luxurious commodity that can only be enjoyed at special gatherings.
