“Sadza nemuriwo” stirs controvesy.

The latest release by Jah Prayzah called “Sadza nemuriwo” has set tongues wagging. Some people have spoken out against the song which they say objectifies women.

The song speaks about a man asking for sadza from his wife to whom he paid the bride price for. People have interpreted it to mean a man asking for his conjugal rights to his wife. The song then goes deeper in advising the woman that her father had demanded a lot of money and other goodies as dowry and yet she was refusing to give her husband what he was entitled to receive.

Some people have claimed that the song views women as mere objects for trade. They said men should consider the issue of paying lobola as a cultural norm rather than a monetary transaction to own a woman. Others also said the song denigrates married women.

Jah Prayzah’s loyal fans were quick to come to his defence by saying there was nothing wrong about the lyrics. They said it was merely an issue of a husband seeking to enjoy himself after having married. They said even at church the emphasis when one marries is on conjual rights.

The video was directed by Blaqs. It features prominent dance group Iyasa. It is a celebration of African traditional rituals and cultural values such as lobola negotiations. The song was well received by fans and is currently on the top list of trending songs at the moment. Jah Prayzah has released other songs such as Hakata, Dzamutsana and Eriza.
