Zimbabwean born player Brendan Galloway injured in Everton loss

Galloway

Everton will assess the extent of Brendan Galloway’s knee injury in the next 48 hours, with Roberto Martinez admitting he could have a problem in the left-back position. The Zimbabwean born player had a decent first half but had to be pulled off due to injury.

Galloway was forced off in the first half of the Blues’ 2-0 defeat by Manchester City on Sunday, with Martinez confirming after the game that the 19-year-old has a patella tendon issue.

With Leighton Baines already facing a long spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury, Everton could ill afford to lose another option for a prolonged period. Martinez was forced to use Tyias Browning here, though he also has Bryan Oviedo available – though the Costa Rican is short of match fitness having suffered his own injury problems.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was full of praise for Galloway who made his way into the Everton squad after Leighton Baines picked up an injury recently, “Brendan has been terrific. As a football club, we are ready to give young players opportunities. Today, though, he has got a patella tendon problem, and we will assess him in the next 24-48 hours.

“It’s probably more down to his age and the fact he is still growing, than actually a structural injury.
