Zim’s First Poetry and Spoken Word Convention
The art of poetry and spoken word in Zimbabwe is an underrated area. While Zimbabwe boasts of legends such as Albert Nyathi and Chirikure Chirikure, a new generation has been making moves. However, the art form has had its fair share of challenges. There is need to make the art form relevant and effective. Due to this need, the first poetry and spoken word convention will be held on 18 November. Dubbed ‘Say Samthin’ Poetry and Spoken Word Convention’, the event will be held is on the 12th and 14th floor of Joina Centre in Harare.
The convention’s purpose is to present ideas and initiate dialogue around the various issues in the world. It’s about people sharing their stories and unlocking their potential.
The one-day event will have three parts which will include discussions, poetry, and music. Key speakers will include Ruvheneko, Fadzai Mahere, ZiFM Stereo’s Tshila and Tswarelo Mothobi. Spoken word artist and radio personality SoProfound will be the host of the event.
Some of the performers will include musicians Bryan K, Fungai Nengare and Prayersoul. Poets will include Aurra, Black Pearl, Andrew Manyika, King Kandoro, Flowchyld and Madzitatiguru to name but a few.
The concert is the main event with headlining acts from Bitter Sweet Poetry(Zambia) and the best local poets and musicians.
