Rumbi Takawira and Jah Prayzah roped in Wildlife campaign.
Television personality, Rumbidzai Takawira also known as “newsbae”, has been paired together with music artist Jah Prayzah for a wildlife campaign. The campaign will mainly focus on wildlife preservation in the county. The duo will also patner it’s Selmor Mtukudzi who is the Big Five ambassador.
The project is being spearheaded by Zim Parks and Wildlife Management Authority together with a San Francisco based NGO called WildAid and the Zambezi Society. The first phase of the local campaign has already been finalised and will be launched soon in Harare. WildAid Assistant consultant for Zimbabwe, Farai Chapoterera confirmed that the trio will perform on various platforms including radio and print media to raise awareness on poaching issues in Zim and the need to preserve wildlife.
WildAid works with celebrities from all over the world including Leornado DiCaprio, David Beckham, Brad Pitt and Prince William. It has been actively involved in wildlife campaigns all over the world including Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. It has been running under the theme “Poaching steals from all of us”.
Poaching has become a common trend in Zimbabwe. Last year, some elphants were poisoned with cynide and a lot of people were caught with rhino horns. The campaign seeks to nip the problem in the bud. Wildlife and Tourism is one of the major sources of income for the country but with the rate at which poaching is becoming prevalent, millions of potential revenue are being lost.
