Zimbabwe National Youth Games Dates Set

The 2015 National Youth Games are around the corner, the dates have been set and the event will commence on the fifteenth until the twenty third of August in Mutare.

All the ten Provinces will be in Mutare to participate in the annual youth games with one-hundred and seventy six athletes expected from each province.

Participants will compete in different sports games including basketball, athletics, football, handball, netball and volleyball. Each athlete has to pay participation fee of $80. Sport commission corporate communications officer Tirivashe Nheweyembwa has urged all the provinces to submit their athletes’ fees as the event’s opening draw closer.

Harare Province is said to have started making their selection although Nheweyembwa admitted the preparations were slow because other Provinces were taking time paying for participation fees.

“We would like to strongly appeal to the Provinces that they have to pay their deposits so that the local organizing committee can effectively and efficiently plan for the games”, said Nheweyembwa. The participation fee will cover the athletes’ accommodation and food.

Nheweyembwa said it was unfortunate the organization had not graduated to a point where everyone can pay their fees before the event. The Games Project Manager, Martin Dururu said most provinces had indicated financial problems as the reason for fee delays.
