Zimbabwe’s 10 most charitable football names
Football can be a very rewarding career for talented footballers who get the opportunity of plying their trade abroad when identified by team’s from abroad. While some choose to keep their reward to themselves below is a list of charitable Zimbabwean football personalities
- Peter Ndlovu
Close to peter Ndlovu’s heart has always been able to give back to his country. During his days with the warriors peter Ndlovu often bailed out the Zimbabwe national team with Nsukuzonke said to have on one occasion met the airfare bills of the Warriors. Ndlovu also hosted the popular Peter Ndlovu trophy which brought together budding talent
2 Benjani Mwaruwari
Another of Zimbabwe’s football personalities gifted with the heart for giving back is Benjani Mwaruwari. At one point in his career as a player in the English premier league, Benjani made a crucial payment which enabled Zimbabwean citizens to have a jovial Christmas with no electricity cuts. Benjani also purchased a bus for his former club University and in the current Covid-pandemic the ex-Auxerre, Portsmouth and Manchester city star purchased food hampers for needy families.
3. Nyasha Mushekwi
Bustling China based forward Nyasha Mushekwi is another of Zimbabwe’s top 10 footballers with a charitable heart. In 2019 Nyasha Mushekwi stunned the Caps United football family after purchasing a top of the range double decker bus. Mushekwi also volunteered to meet players allowances at the 2019 Afcon tournament held in Egypt if Zifa failed to meet the required funding.
4. Tinotenda Kadewere
Another of Zimbabwean charitable football players is Olympique Lyon forward Tino Kadewere. Kadewere at the end of 2019 established the Kadewere foundation which pays school tuition for underprivileged children in Highfield.
5. Willard Katsande
Though somewhat regarded as flamboyant Willard Katsande is another of Zimbabwe’s charitable footballers. Katsande hosts a football tournament in Mutare annually and during the covid-19 pandemic the former Warriors captain and current Kaizer chiefs player gave back to the community where he came from.
6. Sunday Chidzambwa
The popular Zimbabwean football icon this year led from the front after taking part in a drive to fundraise towards those in the frontline who have sacrificed their lives during the covid pandemic. Despite carrying a heavy limp, Chidzambwa held a charity walk which saw him walking 50 times the length of the football pitch at Raylton Sports club.
7. Marshall Munetsi
Marshall Munetsi is another of Zimbabwe’s kindhearted footballers. Munetsi has in the past paid school fees for children in Mabvuku and during the covid-19 pandemic, the France based player donated food hampers to the Mabvuku community.
8. Khama Billiat
Another of Zimbabwe’s charitable footballers is Khama Billiat. At the end of 2019 Billiat returned to Mufakose where he donated football and sports equipment to his former school, Gwinyiru primary school. Billiat also handed out hampers to the needy in South Africa.
9. Marvelous Nakamba
After launching the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation the Aston Villa and Warriors star has outlined his desire to contribute to his nation. After applying for land to construct a top of the range sports facility Nakamba availed with land at Mahatshula Surburb by the Bulawayo City Council.
10. Bruce Grobbelaar
Not to be forgotten in Zimbabwe’s list of charitable footballers is Bruce Grobelaar who during his playing days is said to have on occasions chipped in when the Warriors were faced with financial problems.
