Women dominating the make up industry in Zim

The beauty industry is one of the largest grossing industries worldwide. Recent years have seen local women making strides in this industry and embracing their talents as far as beauty is concerned. Here are the local  women that are making headlines by introducing products that cater for black women in terms of cosmetics.

Jackie Mgido is the founder of Vault cosmetics. She is a Zimbabwean based in Hollywood. She has previously acknowledged that she ventured into this industry with the black woman in mind. After failing to get a product that suited her skin type, Jackie decided to start her own brand and come up with products that compliment black skin.Jackie has worked with A list Hollywood actors such as Denzel Washington,Snoop Lion and ALL Cool J.

She is currently working with actress Ella on another big Hollywood film. Jackie’s work has been featured in several television shows including the Bill Cosby show and Loni love. She was awarded the Dynamic start up business award in 2015 at the African Women Awards. In 2016 her lipstain named Harare was recognized as Canadian Huffington Editor’s pick.

Ruby LynnRuby is a well known Zimbabwean based in Australia. She has her own range of beauty products named after her. She is famous for her make up tutorials that are narrated in Shona therefore appealing to most women. Her range includes foundations, lipstains and concealers among other products. Ruby Lynn confessed that initially, she had no plans to start a business but merely wanted to share grooming tips with other women.

However, after receiving so much positive feedback she decided to start her own make up brand. Ruby Lynn is famous for her statement “Kunyangara huda hakuna mukadzi akashata” She has always been on the forefront in advocating for women’s beauty. Ruby Lynn was nominated for the Zim Achievers Award. She has shops in Zimbabwe, South Africa as well as the UK that sell her products.

Olinda ChapelBest known for her public altercations with ex husband Stunner, Olinda Chapel is a make up and beauty guru. She has her own make up line called Olinda Chapel cosmetics. It includes among others mascara, lipstains and face powder. Olinda’s products are so popular that her her first pre delivery orders finished before the product was even released on the market.

Madam Boss Comedian Madam boss shocked the nation when she announced that she was starting her own beauty products company. The hilarious comedian launched Red by Madam Boss, a line which includes magnetic lashes, perfumes, lipgloss, lipstick and facial creams. The brand has become a household name with most people raving about how good her products are.
