Lengthy prison term for radio show rapist.

Charles Majura will languish in jail for the next 11 years after being convicted by a Harare magistrate for rape. The sad tale of an unfortunate victim who was raped by her alleged radio lover is one that has sent chills done the spines of many women in Zinbabwe.

It all began when one single lady noted down the details of Majura who was looking for love as she, on a popular adult programme on National FM radio station. She then contacted him and love blossomed between the two. They regularly chatted on WhatsApp. After some time, Majura asked the woman to visit him so that they could actually have an appreciation of each other face to face.

The woman, who stays in Mutare made her way to Harare in the hope of meeting Majura, her radio show lover who had also wooed her with a marriage proposal. He advised her that he stayed in Westgate. Upon arrival the lady was shocked to discover the apalling conditions that Majura lived in. He stayed in a wooden cabin with tin roof. The saualid living conditions were no match for what the lady had envisaged she would find.

At that moment, Majura asked the lady to come in but alarm bells rang and she refused. He forcefully thrust her inside. The woman said that Majura raped her for about 11 times during the course of the night. He however disputed it saying he had had sexual intercourse with her for only 5 times. It was only in the early hours of the morning that the woman received assistance from a passer by who took her to the police station to report the incident.

Majura was subsequently sentenced to 16 years in prison with 5 years suspended on the usual conditions. The magistrate reprimanded Majura for his behaviour and stated,” Within five minutes of meeting her you behaved like a he goat and raped the complainant”.

Cases of rape are on the increase and it is indeed a cause for concern.
