Swimming bet ends in tragedy.
A swimming bet between two friends in Mashonaland east ended in tragedy recently with the duo drowning. Marshal Dhlamini and Benjamin Dick both aged 25 succumbed to drowning after placing a 200 dollar bet on who would swim faster. The two were part of a group of friends who had gone to Juru dam to take a bath. Upon arrival the two challenged each other to a swimming competition.
It isalleged that the two swam across the dam and lost strength on their way back. Unfortunately they were still at the centre of the dam when they started getting weak leading to drowning. Their friends quickly rushed to tell the farm owner who called the police. The bodies of the two were retrieved by the police sub aqua unit.
The incident was confirmed by police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere who warned members of the public to desist from attempting to swim or cross flooded rivers this rainy season. The country started experiencing heavy rains early this week and incidents of thunderstorms have been reported in several areas all over the country. In another incident a woman drowned whilst on a cleansing session by an apostolic prophet. It is alleged the prophet had tried to rape her during the session leading to her falling into the water and drowning.
