Chihuri takes a dig at Godwin Matanga
In a surprising twist of events, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga does not have a least basic requirement allowing him to be a police officer, says his former boss Augustine Chihuri as he dropped a bombshell in his high court papers. An Ordinary level qualification is a basic requirement for a police officer to be admitted to join the police service in the Republic of Zimbabwe, however, information from Police former boss and former president ally Augustine Chihuri has pointed out that his predecessor illegitimately found himself at the top of the law enforcers head.
In his court papers filed against an order for him to explain his enormous wealth, Chuhuri also threw a jab at the president for snatching his wife back in the day and for forcing him out of his job after the 2018 November coup.He is accused of syphoning over US$32 million in public funds during his term of office as the police boss and is expected to lose his businesses and properties in the country. The whole scuffle between Chihuri and the regime is believed to have started during the liberation war of independence where the current president forcibly took Chihuri’s pregnant wife. It was further intensified by the ouster of Robert Mugabe his (sic) ally and friend. The accusations levelled by the former police boss further suggest that during 2018 coup, Gen Godwin Matanga – bidding on behalf of the current president – instructed police officers to assassinate him and burn down his Greystone park house. His home was burnt down beyond recognition, leading him to flee to Malawi.
He claims that Gen Godwin Matanga “is doing all he could in order to safely secure his post,” since he “does not have an O’level certificate, which is a basic requirement for a constable to join the police.”Amongst other requirements such as physical and mental stability, a GCE Ordinary level qualification including Mathematics and English Language is a pre-requisite in the country’s police force.
