Business man loses US 50k in a fire
Chitungwiza seems to be a place of misfortunes lately. Barely a month after two kids died after a neighbour’s water tank stand collapsed on them another tragedy has befallen the city. A business man recently lost more than US$50,000 cash which he was keeping in his house in Zengeza 4 when fire razed down the house this afternoon.Nearly all household property worth over US$30,000 was also reduced to ashes in the inferno.The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained. However, State-owned media quoted the businessman Mr Petros Paurai saying his neighbours who witnessed the fire outbreak told him that a gas tank exploded in the kitchen.
The fire which has since been put out occurred around midday and took down the whole metal roof of the seven-roomed house.Mr. Paurai’s house is located near the area popularly known as Pagomba in Zengeza 4.
People have been flooding social media with messages of hope to the business man who had to fathom the reality of losing such a huge amount of money in these harsh economic times. Some have questioned the idea of keeping such a huge stack of cash on the house. Indeed such misfortunes could have been foreseen including being attacked by robbers. Some have said the business man’s misfortune is self made as he ought to have kept his money in a safe place.
The current situation with banks in the country has led many people to keep money at home. Of course, this is not safe but heavy bank charges and are at times a major hindrance to people taking their hard earned cash to the bank.
