Ronald ‘Gidiza’ Sibanda opens up on Bosso rejection

One of the country’s most naturally gifted midfielders Ronald Sibanda has opened up on how Bulawayo giants rejected him as a young footballer before he joined city rivals Zimbabwe Saints.

Affectionately known as Gidiza, the midfielder rose to become one of the most celebrated players in Zimbabwean football history to this day.

Speaking to Alois Bunjira on Zimsoccernet’s In Touch With A Legend Show this Friday, the 45-year-old sadly revealed how his dream of playing for Bosso went down the drain and pushed him to become a household name in as far as Zimbabwean football is concerned.

“I went to Highlanders at one time and they refused me they said I was not good enough so I ended up going to Saints. I played under Ali Baba Dube he knows me he coached me I played a few games there. You know that sense of belonging when they think aaah this one. You knw when you are growing up that Mzilikazi Makokoba thing… Surprisingly when I was at Saints when I started growing, they said that is our player, how can I be your player when you chased me away. Why didn’t they grow me when they saw there was talent, nature the talent then claim its ours,” he said.

Gidiza who once turned out for Dynamos on a one-year loan spell between 1998 and 1999 went on to lift the Premier League championship with Amazulu in 2003 before moving to Njube Sundowns where he hung up his boots.

He was also part of the history making Warriors squad which made its first ever appearance at the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations finals in Tunisia in 2004.

Currently Sibanda is now the Bulawayo City FC Manager.
