The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors continue to fine tune their preparations for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations finals which roar to life in Cameroon on Sunday.
As preparations for the biennial football showpiece intensify, the Warriors played out a goalless draw against Sudan in a friendly match on Sunday afternoon with Zimbabwe coach Norman Mapeza working round the clock to fine tune his charges.
Mapeza opted to give central midfielder Never Tigere who turns out for Azam in Tanzania his first start with the Warriors as well as Iceland based midfielder Kundai Benyu who was a surprise inclusion in the squad after last featuring for the senior national team in 2017 against Lesotho and Namibia.
With only six days before the continental football extravaganza roars to life on Sunday 9 January in Cameroon, the FC Platinum gaffer is yet to find perfect combinations for the team which has since been depleted due to the absence of some of the key players who were ruled out of the tournament by virtue of injuries.
Although the team is not the best that Zimbabweans across the globe would have wanted to represent them at the finals, Mapeza will have to make do with what he has and try to produce the desired results.
Zimbabwe are still looking to find another sparing match against the hosts Cameroon tentatively on Tuesday before they depart for Yaoundé for their base in Bafoussam.
The Warriors will kick-start their campaign against Senegal on the 10th of January at Kouekong Stadium.
