FC Platinum shifts focus to Chibuku Super Cup
By Geronimo News
Reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum will now temporarily shift their focus to the Chibuku Super Cup tournament whose full complement of fixtures take centre stage this weekend.
The tournament which has since reverted back to its traditional knockout format roared to life earlier this month with the preliminary round ties which saw the bottom four teams Cranborne Bullets, Wha Wha, ZPC Kariba and Bulawayo City battling for a spot in the first round.
However, FC Platinum who are the competition’s current holders after beating fellow platinum backed cousins Ngezi Platinum Stars 5-3 on penalties in the final last year, will begin their title defense with a clash against Tenax at their favourite fortress Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane on Saturday.
The Zvishavane-based outfit have been in fine form in the league campaign for the past 11 weeks where they have gone on an unbeaten run for the aforementioned period.
It is therefore expected Kugona Kunenge Kudada will continue with that momentum going into the knockout competition and go all the way to successfully defend their title.
FC Platinum will be meeting with Tenax for the second time this season after having faced off each other in a league match at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare on June 26, in a match which saw the former winning 2-0.
With that in mind Tenax will definitely be seeking for a sweet revenge and knock FC Platinum out of the Chibuku Super Cup tourney come Saturday.
