Munetsi pleads for end to ZIFA, SRC impasse

Zimbabwe and Stade Reims midfielder Marshall Munetsi has pleaded with government and the local football governing body ZIFA to find common ground and resolve the issue that has resulted in sanctions being inflicted on Zimbabwean Football.

In a post on Munetsi’s facebook wall, the midfielder bemoans how Zimbabwe will remain inactive ahead the next set of qualifiers. Munesti wrote, “As we approach the next set of qualifiers as football players we are reminded that our national team remains banned from participating in any international assignments. This reminder cascades down to the fans as well, they can’t enjoy the national teams they watch playing”.

“As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers because they do not have opportunities to showcase their talent during national team assignments, this situation continues to harm not only the future of football in the country but it is depriving the general community of the downstream benefits that can bring to the social economy of the nation”.

I continue to implore ZIFA and SRC urging all the parties involved to find common ground and to come to an amicable solution”.

Munetsi’s remarks come at a time Zimbabwean Football is under FIFA sanctions owing to alleged government interference when the SRC acted in dissolving the ZIFA board and appointed an interim ZIFA leadership.

The last time Zimbabwe topo part in international football was when the Warriors competed at the Africa Cup of nations hosted by Cameroon and football fans have been clamouring for an end to the current situation in which Zimbabwe cannot compete in international competition.
