The City of Kings and Queens will be relishing the prospect of psl glory returning to the Matebeleland region with 2015 being the last time a side from the region managed to secure league success.
In 2015 Chicken Inn powered to a maiden league triumph under the tutelage of Joey Antipas but since then topflight glory has proven to be elusive. Ahead of the 2023 season, Chicken Inn and Highlanders will be fancying their chances of success despite the stiff transfer market activity exhibited by clubs such as Dynamos, FC Platinum, Caps United and Manica Diamonds.
The most popular side in the region is undoubtedly Highlanders Football Club. Having last won a league championship in 2006 it has been more that 15 years since Bosso faithfuls have celebrated winning the psl crown.
Bosso however remain hopeful with Portuguese gaffer Brito set to take charge of Highlanders in his first full season. Despite losing the services of players such as Adrian Silla and Nqobizitha Masuku Bosso remains bullish and fans will be filled with high expectation after showing massive signs of improvement last season.
After securing a 5th place finish in the last campaign Highlanders will this time be targeting at least a top 3 finish as they look to edge closer to finally returning to the apex of the Zimbabwean Premier League following a very long absence.
Boasting of a solid junior development programme, highlanders have heavily relied on talent that has come through from it’s juniors despite having the privilege of possessing sound sponsorship from Sakunda Holdings.
